E. Bengal Government will be toppled: Bhutto
KARACH, NOV. 13Mr. Bhutto leader of West Pakistan’s Leftist People’s Party, has warned that if an attempt is made to form a Government from the winners of by-elections to be held in East Pakistan next month, “we will topple it within 40 days,” reports Reuter.
Six Rightwing parties have formed an alliance to contest 78 National Assembly seats in the by-elections to be held following disqualification of members of the now-outlawed Awami League.
The Awami League under Sheikh Mujibur Rahman won an absolute majority in the National Assembly in last December’s election with 160 of the 300 seats. The People’s Party won 83 seats, all in West Pakistan.
Mr. Bhutto a former Foreign Minister was addressing a huge crowed here yesterday at the end of a speaking tour of west Pakistan that he undertook after his visit to Peking last week.
President Yahya Khan has assured Pakistan Democratic Party chief, Mr. Nurul Amin, to investigate the manner in which nominees of he Pakistan people’s Party were declaret elected unopposed in the recent elections in East Bengal, adds UNI quoting UBBC correspondent.
The correspondent Rolland Robson in report from Dacca said the military authorities had also decided not to declare any more results of the elections.
Mr. Robson reports that the officials appeared disturbed by the people’s comments that the results “are an open fraud” and that “who says elections are taking place?’
