Senator Proxmire brought US arms sale plan to light

From J. K. BANERJI, NEW YORK, July, 10.—Nixon Administration’s arms sales plan for the present fiscal year starting in the month of July has come to light due to the presistent prodding of Senator Proxmire, of Wisconsin, the taxpayers watchdog who recently killed the supersonic transport plane project as a wasteful white elephant.
Strangely but happily for the administration, both India and Pakistan were allocated million each for arms on credit.
True, the issue today is that despite the officials ban on arms sales to Pakistan, allegedly imposed on April 6, arms to the tune of $35 million are being and will be shipped to Pakistan on the plea that the license for such sales were granted prior to the date of the ban.
Political observers feel that it would have been however a little more dignified for India, struggling to cope with a crisis aggravated by continued arms supply to Pakistan, to inform Washington that it could do without the US arms for a while.
Congress, has however, not yet approved the Bill covering 13 reciplient countries of the US arms aid.
