Yahya Must Take Hands Off Bangladesh -Miss Maity
The Congress (O) leader, Miss Abha Maity, in a recent interview with the Edmonton Journal, Canada, said that conditions must be created to stop further influx of evacuees from Bangladesh and to ensure their “early return home under creditable guarantees for their future safety”.
Miss Maity, who is now in Canada attending the International Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Congress, added that the Yahya regime must be compelled to transfer power to the elected representative in Bangladesh. She felt this was the only solution to the current turmoil in East Bengal.
Stressing the need for immediate recognition of Bangladesh, she urged the world Powers to put pressure on Pakistan so that the military regime “takes its hands off East Bengal”. India, she said, was not thinking in terms of war. It was appealing to different nations to create a strong international opinion in favour of Bangladesh. “There can be no military solution to the problem”, she added.
