Yahya to visit Dacca for parleys

MUJIBNAGAR, June 1: President Yahya Khan is visiting Dacca some time this month for a personal assessment of the situation after the army crackdown last March.
According to informed sources, President Yahya Khan will have dissuasions with Lt. Gen. Tikka Khan. Governor and Chief Martial law Administrator, Lt-Gen. Niazi, GOC East Bengal, and other high-ranking officials in measures for restoration of civil administration which continues to be in a state of total breakdown.
The President is also expected to meet leaders of political groups opposed to the Awami League in an effort to set up a puppet civilian Government before the arrival of high-powered U. N. team and other international teams for on-the-spot studies to the situation in Bangladesh.
Prince Saddruddin Aga Khan U. N. High commissioner for Refugees, is also expected in Dacca some time this month. The martial law authorities have already put into gear their gunpoint machinery “into action in setting up a “ refugee camp” in Kusthia district in Western Bangladesh adjoining Nadia in West Bengal.
Reports available here said the “camp” authorities in Kusthia had already been instructed by the martial law regime to prepare in advance propaganda material to depict the “refugees” now estimated at abort 2,000, as “victims of 11-treatment while in Indian camps.”
Bangladesh Government officials said the Kushtia camp was “only a benefit performance” for foreign investigating teams. Once the purpose of getting aid has been served. “the poor people will be driven out”- PTI.
