New E. Bengal Governor meets officials, people

FARIDPUR, BANGLADESH, SEPT. 10. The new Bengali civilian Governor of East Bengal, Dr. A. M. Malik, made his first trip today to the country-side since he took office a week ago, and heard unhappy citizens giving an appraisal the army regime has been unwilling to admit in public.
After spending an hour in a helicopter inspecting flooded areas south of Dacca, Dr. Malik met about 30 administration officials and Peace Committee workers in Faridpur, headquarters of the home district of Awami League leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
A few facts were brought to the notice to the Governor by the civilians who submitted their evidence before him. These are, (1) the Army and the police cannot go successfully into the interior to fight the Mukti Bahini: (2) People in the area listen only to Free Bangladesh Radio All India Radio (AIR), rejecting news broadcast by Pakistan Radio.
