Have crucial talks in Nepal
From Our Special Correspondent, KATHMANDU, Sept. 2—Though the signing of the recent treaty on trade and transit has removed a major irritant in Indo-Nepalese relations, several crucial issues are likely to figure during the talks the External Affairs Minister, Mr. Swaran Singh, will have here with the Nepalese Government leaders during his two-day visit. reports UNI.
Recent developments in Bangladesh and the conclusion of the Indo-Soviet Treaty of friendship are likely to figure prominently in the talks.
Mr. Swaran Singh in due to meet King Mahendra tomorrow afternoon and the Prime Minsiter, Mr. Kirtinidhi Bista the next day.
The Indian Foreign Minister will evidently explain his Government’s stand on the Bangladesh issue in the face of Pakistan’s determined refusal to find a democratic solution in consultation with Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other elected representatives.
As for the Indo-Soviet Treaty, Mr. Swaran Singh will seek to allay any doubts that this meant the giving up of the traditional policy of non-alignment.
The discussions between the two Governments of Bangladesh assume importance in the context of the ensuing session of the UN General Assembly, where, it is quite possible, that some country may raise the issue.
