Jamiat-e-Ulema demands trial of Yahya
Leaders of the Jamat-e-Ulema on Wednesday demanded a trial of Gen. Yahya and his West Pakistani militay junta ‘for wanton destruction of life and property of millions of peace-loving people of East Bengal’.
In a resolution passed at a convention in Calcutta the Jamiat strongly condemned the ‘Facist rulers-of West Pakistan for their unIslamic act’ and extended its whole-hearted support to the Bangladesh freedom movement.
It also urged the Prime Minister to recognize the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh at an appropriate moment.
Speaking at the convention, former Union Minister Shah Nawaz Khan recalled his trial at the hand of the Britishers and said that the British not only failed to hang him, but also had to quit India.
He expressed confidence that the Yahya regime would also have to meet the same fate.
