Mrs. Kripalani demands military action

NEW DELHI, June 27.-Mrs. Sucheta Kripalani, Congress (O) leader, today demanded proper action, if necessary military action, against Pakistan to deal with the situation in Bangladesh, reports PTI.
Mrs. Kripalani, who headed a four-member delegation sponsored by the Congress (O) to West Bengal on a fact-finding mission as also to study the situation created by the refugees from Bangladesh, said at a Press Conference here that the political settlement of the problem seemed almost impossible.
She said the international community had failed to put pressure on Pakistan to create the necessary conditions for the seven million refugees to return to Bangladesh. She put the blame for this on the United Nations and U Thant and said that the UN Secretary General’s silence had made the Human Rights Charter meaningless in the context of the mass killing that was going on the Bangladesh.
As the refugees had been pushed into India, this country should be duly compensated by land from Pakistan on which they could be settled.
“If this was done in a peaceful manner, it was well and good. If not, India should take “appropriate action” which the Government had been promising for some time,” she added.
In order to mobilise public opinion in the country, the Congress (O) would observe the “Bangladesh Day.” The Working Committee would meet to fix the date, she said.
“What is going on in East Bengal is Biafra magnified hundred-fold. It is utter shame that U Thant’s mouth is sealed. For the failure, they are now trying to serve their conscience by sending medical relief to the East Bengal refugees in India. This type of lolly-pop will not do,” she said.
