Agnew face rallies
NEW DELHI, July 6.—The US. Vice-President, Mr. Spiro Agnew, and Dr. Hernry Kissinger, President Nixon’s National Security Adviser, encountered demonstrations when they arrived in the country today, reports UMI.
About 2,000 people demonstrated in front of the Bombay Airport in protest against the U. S. shipment of arms to Pakistan when Mr. Agnew passed through the city on his way to Kuwait from Singapore.
A black-flag demonstration greeted Dr. Kissinger when he arrived in New Delhi on a today visit to the country.
The demonstrators in Bombay were cordoned off by steel-helmeted men of the Maharashtra Reserve Police about 100 metres away from Bombay Airport.
Later a deputation led by the All-India Port and Dock Workers’ Federation President Mr. S. R. Kulkarni, waited on Mr. Agnew but it could not meet him. An official of the U. S. Consulate in Bombay. Mr. Kenneth A. Kurze, met Mr. Kulkarni who presented a protest note to Mr. Agnew who was taking rest in the transit lounge.
Braving a heavy downpour the demonstrators in Delhi waving black flaps riagei slogans denouncing US arms shipment to Pakistan. Most of the demonstrators belonged to the CPI and the SSD.
