U.S. Military Aid To Pakistan
Kennedy calls for Investigation
WASHINGTON, July 16.-Senator Edward Kennedy has asked the general accounting office to investiagte the conditions under which U.S. Military aid is being sent to Pakistan, reports AP.
Mr. Kennedy, who is the chairman of the Senate refugees subcommittee, said that State Department explanations of how ships were allowed to leave American ports with cargoes of arms for Pakistan were completely inadequate.
He told the U.S. Comptroller-General, that “for too long the Congress has heard misleading statements on this Administration’s policy toward the supply of arms to Pakistan—while each day brings news of more ships loaded with more arms. It saddens me that our great nation continues to be more efficient in moving military hardware than in arranging humanitarian relief to East Bengal.”
