AL will Meet same Fate
In Elections As In 1954
– Mujib

From our Karachi Office Aug. 31: The East Pakistan Awami League general secretary, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in a statement issued here today “assured” Mr. Qayyum Khan and Mr. Chundrigar that the Awami League will meet the same fate in the forthcoming general elections as it met in 1954. “I throw this challenge. Let them take it up,” he said.
Mr. Rahman said that it was wrong to say that the Muslim League had won 19 out of the 21 seats in the Chittagong municipal elections. The elections were not fought on party basis, he said. He claimed that nine elected members had stated that they are not Muslim Leaguers. According to him these nine members are Messrs. Syed Hamid Choudhury, Mr. Akbar Ali, Mr. Syedur Rahman Choudhury, Mr. Abdul Mojid Dhorash, Mr. Pir Bux, Mr. Abdul Mojid Choudhury, Md. Mohammed Yusuf, Mr. Bazie Ahmad Choudhury and Mr. Wahidul Haq.
These members together with three Awami Leaguers and four others are determined to oppose any Muslim Leaguer who will be put up for Chairmanship, Mr. Rahman claimed.
