AWAMI LEAGUE
I have read with interest the letter of Mr. Imamuddin Ahmed published in your paper on October 29, under the caption Awami League. It is a fact that almost all the top ranking leaders of the Awami League always speak with a regional and provincial outlook. I feel no hesitation in saying that the idea of regionalism is the only fundamental pillar upon which the building of the Awami Leaguers stands Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, whose hobby it is to deliver speeches with an appeal to provincial feelings always feels shy of saying “Purba Pakistan” and perhaps feels proud in saying “Purba Bangla.”
As for Mr. Suhrawardy, it is difficult for the nation to depend on him in view of his ever changing stand. After his expulsion from the Muslim League, he staged a comeback to politics through Moulana Bhashani and occupied the top position in the country. But he trampled the Moulana also under his feel after getting the Premiership. Then he joined hands with the West. He welcomed the Eisenhower doctrine toured the western countries and aligned himself to the West. After that he was to send his “Chela” to Russia as his personal envoy. One cannot say if it was the first move of Mr. Suhrawardy towards kicking the West and leaping into the lap of Moscow.
