More sacrifice needed to preserve freedom
-ATAUR RAHMAN

DACCA, Jun 14: The East Pakistan Chief Minister, Mr Ataur Rahman Khan, said at Narayanganj yesterday: “The freedom that we have achieved after long sufferings and sacrifices is dearer to us than our lives, and we are ready to make more sacrifices to safeguard it.”
The Chief Minister’s speech at the Anti-Air Raid Demonstration in observance of Civil Defence week, was read by the provincial Commerce and Industries Minister, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The Chief Minister said that the Civil Defence Organisation which as the fourth arm of defence played an important part for the safety and security of the civil population in times of war, could also do a good deal of social service during peace time. Mr. Ataur Rahman Khan appealed to the Civil Defence workers to devote themselves to nation-building activities and held stamp out profiteering, smuggling and blackmarketing which had “paralysed the society.”
Expressing his great satisfaction at the successful observance of the Civil Defence week, Mr. Khan thanked all those who had been selflessly working for strengthening the internal defence of the country and said that the Government would spare no pains for further development of the Civil Defence Organisations. Fire Brigade, police and Ansars participated in the demonstration. -APP.
