MPA’s Rejoinder to Mujib

Mr. M. A. Matin MPA in a statement last night said that the food situation in East Pakistan had not yet been tackled effectively as claimed by the Commerce and Industries Minister, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in a press interview in Karachi some days ago. Reviewing the food situation in rural areas of the Province, the MPA said that newly harvested paddy was being sold these days at the rate of Rs. 25/26 per maund and the rice, Rs. 40/45 per maund. Along with if he added, said is selling at Rs. 1/8 per seer and in some cases the commodity was not available.
The MPA also requested the Government not to suppress the news of starvation deaths to avoid legitimate demand of the people of East Pakistan.
He said, I draw the attention of Moulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani in this regard as I am confident of his sympathy for the starving millions of East Pakistan.
