Jamaat Replies to Mujib
Mujibur Rahman’s Assurance
Mr. Syed Hafizur Rahman, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami, Dacca City, issued the following statement to the Press yesterday (Saturday):
“Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, during the course of his speech at Paltan Maidan yesterday, stated that during the AntiQadiani Agitation of 1953 in the Punjab 10,000 Muslims were killed and the responsibility for this wholesale slaughter of Muslims lies on Maulana Maudoodi. He Quoted Munir Report as authority for this statement. I really wonder if the Hon’ble Minister has ever gone through this “holy book” which he was holding in his hands while making these sweeping remarks. For his information I would rather let the Hon’ble Minister know that the very “holy book’ (Munir Report) gives the total number killed as only eleven and the responsibility for all this has been laid on Abrar who are new the only supporters of Awami Leaguers in West Pakistan.”
