A.L’s terms for help in making Constitution
The Awami League party in the Constituent Assembly yesterday expressed its willingness to co-operate with the majority party in the task of constitution-making.
Mr. Mujibur Rahman, Secretary of the Awami League Assembly party, yesterday told the “APP’ that his party was very anxious to make the constitution for the country and willing to co-operate with the Government were willing to accept their demand for regional autonomy, joint electorate, acceptance of Bengali as one of the State languages and parity in all respects. His party was not willing to accept anything minus these four things, and would fight every inch for that, he added. He asserted that the United Front party would “meet the fate met by the Muslim League in the last general elections in East Pakistan, if it violated the 21-point programme. Contending that the 21-point programme was the demand of the people of East Pakistan, he said that the Awami League party would not sell the interest of the people for coming into power. They would go into power when voted by the people. The question to the Awami League’s joining the Cabinet was out of question, he added.-APP.
