Mujib supports hartal
Sheikh Mujbur Rahman, chief of the Awami League, last night extended his full support to the hartal call given by the students for today and appealed to the people to observe it in a complete peaceful manner, reports PPI.
In a Press statement issued last night the Sheikh also urged upon the Government to see that no provocation is offered from any quarters to disturb the peaceful observance of the hartal.
Following is the text of the statement:
All Party Central Students Committee of Action has declared hartal on Tuesday, March 4, 1969, in order to raise demands on certain vey vital national issues. I extend my full support to the call of the hartal and appeal to the people to observe the same in complete peaceful manner, I urge upon the Government to see that no provocation is effered from any quarter to disturb the peaceful observance of the hartal.
“Incidentally I wish to make it clear that while our movement should continue unabated in a peaceful and orderly manner until the rightful demands of the people are fully realised. All of us should be very cautious and vigilant against all sorts of provocation and cosy manocuvres designed by the interested quarters in an attempt to suppress the great sacrifice made by the nation.”
