India grants asylum to Pak seamen
NEW DELHI, April 11, A chief petty officer and seven seamen who desepted a Pakistan navy submarine over the East Pakistan crisis have been granted asylum in India, it is officially stated here today.
The sailors defected from the submarine “Mangro” while it anchored at Toulon on March 31.
They contacted India Embassy in Madrid for facilities to travel to India.
On arrival in New Delhi last night they sought asylum which was granted.
Official sources said they would not be compelled to return to West Pakistan against their will.
