- Muktibahini fighters ambush Pakistan military convoy with booby-traps in Miabazar area under sector 2. Sixteen Pakistani soldiers are killed in the explosion and 5 others are injured.
- A company of guerilla fighters, led by Akmal Ali, barricaded the Manohardi settlement of Pakistan military under sector 3. Twenty-five Pakistan soldiers are killed and 11 others captured in the fight that took place over some hours.
- Pakistan President Yahya Khan and PPP chief ZA Bhutto sit in a meeting.
- PPP Vice President Mia Mahmud Ali tells reporters in Dhaka that the freedom fighters are becoming a threat for those who are encouraged to participate in the by-polls. PPP would boycott the polls if this situation continues. He demanded for the contestants’ security.
- UN Secretary General U’thant proposes India and Pakistan to make UN a mediator to ease the tension between the two countries.
