Question in PA on Mujib
(By A Staff Correspondent)
The leader of the Opposition in the Provincial Assembly, Mr. Abdul Malek, wanted to know in the East Pakistan Assembly on Wednesday the where about of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Awami League chief now under detention.
Mr.Malek said that rumours were running wild about the Awami League leader after the Government had announced his involvement in the alleged Agartala case.
After the Questioner Hour was over, the leader of the Opposition stood up to say that if the Government came out with a clarification in this connection, rumours would die down. He urged the Government to hold open trial in the court of law against those involved in the case.
The Law Minister Mr. Abdul Hye Chowdhury, objected to raising the question on the ground of Rules of Procedure. He said that the members could bring the matter in the House only if he brought a separate notice or resolution on the matter.
At this point supporting the leader of the Opposition, Mr. Asaduzzaman Khan, lender of the Independent Group, said that in view of the Press Note issued by the Central Government involving Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the alleged conspiracy case, the house could want to know whether the Awami League leader was still in the custody of the Provincial Government and where he was at the moment.
The Senior Deputy Speaker, Mr. Gamiruddin Pradhan, who was in the chair, gave a ruling that this matter should better come with a short notice.
