JOIN TALKS ONLY ON 11-POINT BASIS, STUDENTS: URGE MUJIB

The student leaders yesterday warned the Awami League leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman that people of East Pakistan would not forgive him if he betrayed the confidence reposed in him by the people and asked him to join the proposed round table conference only under the basis of eleven-point programme of the students, reports APP.
Speaking at the civic reception, the student leaders also urged the Sheikh to insist on the fulfilment of the preconditions set by the students before he attended the talks.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mahbubul Haque Dolan (NSF) said there could not be any compromise on the eleven-point demands because the emancipation of the people of East Pakistan was possible only through the realisation of these demands.
He suggested to the Sheikh that these demands, therefore, should not be subverted through compromise.

PRE-CONDITION NOT FULFILLED
Saifuddin Ahmed Manik (EP-SU-Moua Group) regretted that many of the preconditions had not yet been fulfilled. There were large number of warrants against the leaders and political cases had not been withdrawn.
He suggested to Awami League leader to continue talks and at the same time guide the movement.
He demanded adult franchise and abrogation of the present constitution People do not want any amended constitution framed by the present Government, he said.

FULL AUTONOMY
Khalid Mohammad Ali (EPSL) stipulated full autonomy of East Pakistan as one of the conditions which should be fulfilled before the Sheikh should go to the parleys. While the Sheikh should participate in the talks under the basis of Six-point programme of the Awami League, he should also see that none betrayed the eleven-point programme of the students, he said.

MOVEMENT TO CONTINUE
Mr. Mahbubullah (EPSU, Menon Group) said that Sheikh Mujib should not joint the talks until the preconditions were fully realised. He declared that the movement would continue till the achievement of economic emancipation for the people of East Pakistan.
He also said that the talks could not be fruitful so long Pakistan was in the military pacts and people’s volunteer corps was not raised.
Although the present regime accepted a partial defeat people would have to remember that the regime was still in power and monopolists like the Adamjees, Saigols, Ispahanis were still reigning.
Tofail Ahmed Vice-President of DUCSU who presided over the meeting administered a warning to the Sheikh that the people would not pardon him if he bartered away the confidence people had in him.
He also urged the Sheikh to give leadership to a movement which would not allow the deaths in the recent movement to go in vain.
He said the national anthem was in Urdu which is in fact the mother tongue of only three per cent people of West Pakistan. He demanded that the national anthem would have to be in Bengali and Radio Pakistan’s armed forces programme should give proper, treatment to Bengali.
PPI adds: Tofail Ahmed said people of this province no more want parity. What they want is the population basis representation in all spheres of life, he added.
Criticising the education policy of the Government, he said that the provincialisation of the well-established colleges in the province was a planned and calculated step to keep the people of this province in an age of darkness.
He urged upon the authorities for de-provincialisation of these colleges immediately along with the abolition of the English kindergarten schools in the province.
