Deposition in Mujib’s case

A prosecution witness in the case against Sheikh Mujibur on Tuesday in reply to a question of cross-examination by the defence declared that he supported Convention League. The witness, a young man residing at 166, Waterworks Road, Dacca earlier deposed that he was a businessman.
Mr. M. S. Khan Additional District Magistrate, Dacca is trying the accused, a detenue, inside Dacca Central Jail.
Questioned by Mr. Zahiruddin if he had ever met his maternal uncle (another prosecution witness) after his last deposition, the witness said he had met him once. On a further query he admitted that he stayed with his uncle in the same house. On questioning if his Convention League was the one to which President Ayub Khan belonged and for which Governor Monem Khan canvassed during the last National Assembly bye-election at Faridpur the witness said he did not know.
To the next question he said he had heard only Skeikh Mujib’s speech and then left the meeting. He said he met a police officer one month before he deposed in the case. He was asked by the police officer to see him sometime, the witness added. These statements were made when the defence lawyer wanted to know if the witness was ever examined by any police officer.
Abdur Razzaq, another businessman of 43, N. K. Dutta Road, Dacca who earlier deposed to have heard the speech of the accused and quoted from it out of memory said that he had attended other meetings including that of President Ayub Khan but did not remember none of the speeches.
He said the police came to him after the meeting and asked him to see them in the thana. Abdus Satter of 38, Madan Mohan Basak Road who said he was a contractor quoted from the speech of the accused. He said that he did not remember any other speech. The case was adjourned to November 9 for cross-examination of further witnesses.
