Allegation of harassment by Police
(By Our Court Correspondent)

The bail petition of Abdul Kader Chowdhury, his wife and teenage sons came up for hearing in the court of the Sessions Judge on Tuesday who adjourned it till Friday next.
Abdul Kader Chowdhury of 112, H. K. Das Road, Dacca, his wife Badrunnessa, aged about 45, teenage sons Jinnah Chowdhury and Panna Chowdhury were on Tuesday last granted bail in a criminal case brought by the Police on complaint by a servant of his neighbour residing at 111, H.K. Das Road.
The alleged offenders were arrested by the Sutrapur Police on July 18 early morning from their residence.
Due to the police detention Panna Chowdhury a student of Class x in Government Muslim High School Dacca could not appear at his examination on July 18.
On Tuesday the defence lawyer moving the bail in the Magistrates’ Court had said that a police officer was constantly harassing Kader Chowdhury and the entire members of his family by instituting cases through others like servant and driver and by exerting influence over the thana police.
On July 16 the neighbour Police Officer’s servant Nurul Amin complained to the police that Abdul Kader Chowdhury, his wife and two sons abused the servant and threatened him in various ways. The complaint was by way of a “telephone message”.
Receiving the servant’s “telephone message” a Sutrapur Police went to the spot and reported that he had found it correct that the accused abused the servant in “filthy language and threatened him with assault and even with murder.”
The police stated that the accused were “very dangerous and desperate in nature and prayed to the court to issue warrants for their arrest and to ask them to furnish bonds for keeping peace.
The SDO, South, Dacca on July 17 ordered for issuance of such warrants against the four accused and notices for bond under Sections 117(3) and 107 of the Cr. P.C.
