Mujib’s appeal admitted
(By Our Court Correspondent)
Shaikh Mujib’s appeal was admitted yesterday by the Sessions Judge, Dacca.
The appeal was preferred against the order and sentence passed by Mr. Aftaruddin Magistrate, 1st Class, Dacca, who convicted Shaikh Mujib under a prejudicial speech and sentenced him to suffer 15 months simple imprisonment.
Mr. Zahiruddin Advocate, who moved for Shaikh Mujib, contended that considering the evidence on record and circumstances of the case the order and sentence passed by the learned magistrate, was bad in law. He further argued that the transcription should not be relied upon, as these were carbon copy and did not disclose the alleged speech into to. The learned lawyer also questioned the character of witnesses who deposed in that case.
The appeal will be heard on June 19, 1967. Bail petition also moved to allow Shaikh Mujib to be released on bail. The learned Sessions Judge fixed May 29 for hearing.
