Mujib’s release urged
DACCA, May 14: Twenty-six Basic Democrats of Narayanganj in a statement yesterday demanded immediate release of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other Awami League leaders arrested under the Defence of Pakistan Rules, says a Press release of the Narayanganj Awami League.
The signatories, including two Chairmen of the Union Council, also demanded immediate withdrawal of the state of emergency from the country.
According to another report Mr Bazlur Rahman, Secretary of Dacca District Awami League, Mr Mohiuddin, Secretary of Narayanganj City Awami League and Mr A Bhyian, President of the Narayanganj Sub-divisional Awami League, here criticised the arrest of Awami League leaders and demanded their immediate release.
A report from Rangpur said that a general meeting of the labours of the Rangpur branch of the Pakistan Tobacco Company held recently condemned the arrest of Mr Zahur Ahmad Chowdhury, President of the PTC Employees Association under the DPR.
The meeting demanded immediate release of Mr Zahur Ahmad along with all other political leaders, including Shaikh Mujibur Rahman.
