MUJIB’S TRIAL OPENS

SYLHET, May 6: Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, President of the East Pakistan Awami League, (EPAL) today appeared in the court of SDO, Sylhet, in connection with the cases started against him under Sections 153. A PPC, 7(3) of the Public Safety Ordinance and 47(5) of the Defence of Pakistan Rules (DPR).
The case were transferred to the court of Khwaja Abdul Halim Magistrate, who fixed June 13 and 14 for evidence.
Sheikh Mujib is on bail granted by the Sessions Judge of Sylhet previously
Earlier, in the morning, Sheikh Mujib accompanied, among others, by Mr Tajudin Ahmad, General Secretary of the EPAL and Mr Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury, MNA, reached Sylhet by train from Dacca.
He was greeted at the station by the people with slogans of “Sheikh Mujib Zindabad”, “six-point Zindabad”, “stop repression on Sheikh Mujib” etc.
On his way from Dacca to Sylhet the President of the EPAL was greeted at many wayside stations:
At Akhaura station, Sheikh Mujib explained his party’s sixpoint programme to a gathering and exhorted the audience to “be ready for any sacrifice” for the realisation of the six demands. -PPA.
