6-Point Programme Magna Carta For Pakistanis
-Mujib

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman newly elected President of the East Pakistan Awami League yesterday called upon the people to prepare themselves to launch a “relentless peaceful and democratic movement” in the country for the attainment of his party’s sixpoint programme, reports PPA.
He was addressing a public meeting at the Paltan Maidan here yesterday afternoon. The meeting was also addressed by Mr. Zaheeruddin, the General Secretary of the Pakistan Awami League.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman replied to criticisms of the Pakistan Muslim League President, count by count and exhorted the people to make all sacrifices for realisation of the six-point programme,
He declared that “no amount of threat or coercion” would desist the people to fight for the attainment of this objective: if required, each and every Awami Leaguer, would go to jail for the purpose.
Sheik Mujib asserted that not a strong Centre but strong East and West Pakistan would strengthen the foundation of the country.
This fact was amply proved during the September war, when, despite a strong Centre, East Pakistan remained “completely isolated and helpless”. Sheikh Mujib reiterated that both East and West Pakistan must be made self-sufficient in all respects including in matter of defence.
CHARGE REFUTED
He said that the six-point envisaged a scheme for a happy. prosperous and strong Pakistan. He refuted the charge that the framer of the six-point programme wanted to disintegrate Pakistan. He also refuted the charges that they were planning for a Greater Bengal. “I want to iterate the historical fact. We wanted to include a United Bengal and Assam with Pakistan” at the time of the independence, he pointed out.
“Whenever people had come out with some demand about their rights,” he continued, “they had been termed as antistate elements.”
He said that future prosperity and progress of the country lay in the six-point programme which, he described as was the “Magna Carta” for the people of both wings of Pakistan.
Sheikh Mujib said that hopes and aspirations of the people were manifested in the six-point programme.
