Heavy losses suffered by Indian troops, Pak says
New Delhi, Nov. 27 (AP).
INDIAN forces have suffered more than 1000 casualties in heavy fighting in East Pakistan, Radio Pakistan claimed Saturday night.
The official government radio, quoting a Pakistan field commander, said Indian troops were “exerting pressure all over East Pakistan but the situation is fully under control”.
In the heaviest fighting reported by a Pakistani military spokesman, the Pakistanis claimed India struck at the railway line near Hilly in north Bengal, under cover of air and artillery support.
The Pakistani claimed they inflicted 150 casualties raising to an estimated 1000 the number killed since the Pakistanis launched an all out attack Sunday. Th spokesman said that in the same period Pakistan had lost only 30 dead.
Pakistan claimed to have destroyed two Soviet builed tanks of the Indian army in the fighting at the railway line which started Friday.
Pakistan denied Indian reports of advancs toward Jessore in East Pakistan but said India still held Chaugacha.
