NEW “BANGLA DESH” GOVT. APPEALS FOR ARMS
ARMY DRIVE CAUSES PANIC
New Delhi, April 14 : (AP):
East Pakistan independence forces appealed Wednesday to other countries for arms and ammunition as the Pakistan Army maintained a two pronged offensive to crush the three-week old rebellion in the secessionist province.
Indian monitors said Tajuddin Ahmed, the prime minister of the oneday-old Independent Repbulic of Bangla Desh (Bengali Nation), made the arms appeal on behalf of the followers of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from a clandestine radio in the province.
Sheikh Mujib, who has been declared the President Bangla Desh, was arrested March 26 as the army began its crackdown on his Awami League, the Pakistan government has said.
“Arms and ammunition are the paramount needs for Bangla Desh today,” Tajuddin was quoted as saying.
United News of India said Tajuddin also appealed to foreign countries that give military aid to Pakistan “to suspend fortwith their supplies to an army of murderers who are killing innocent men, women and children.”
