Precarious position admitted
RAWALPINDI, DEC. 9- The Pakistani Army has said its forces in Bangladesh were coming under “the most serious attack” since the start of hostilities on December 3. The admission came in a communique issued on December 8. reports Reuter.
UNI ads : A conversation between Pak authorities in Dacca and Peshawar was intercepted yesterday.
“I doubt if we shall be able to fly any more”, said Air Commodore Inam. Air Officer Commanding in Dacca.
The conversation intercepted at 11.15 a.m. said “I think within 48 hours they (Indian) are likely to engage Dacca. We have already started destroying top secret papers and are preparing to demolish all vital equipment … The runway was again entered last night by MIG 21s. otherwise we would have operated today. I do not think we shall be able to fly much … I doubt if we shall be able to fly any more … I thought I might as well convey this to you as I do not know how well Eastern Command has informed you.”
A number of similar messages from Bangladesh gave the impression that Pakistan occupation forces there were preparing for the worst.
An intercepted message from Dacca to Rawalpindi on Wednesday revealed that the West Pakistan police and razakars manning a transmitter at Khulna had abandoned it.
Instructions were given yesterday morning by the Pakistani Army signal Officer in Dacca to his junior commander in Chittagong to burn all top secret and classified documents.
