Mukti Bahini harassing Pak troops
MUJIBNAGAR, August 30 : The Mukti Bahini continues to harass the Pakistani army at a number of places in BanglaDesh, according to reports reaching here from across the border.
A large number of Pakistani troops have been killed in encounters in various sectors where guerillas are operating. A large number of Razakars, Muslim League volunteers and colaborators have also been murdered. • According to one report, the army authorities continue to pressurize Mr. Nurul Amin, one of the two non Awami League members of the still-born National Assembly and some other quislings to join a delegation going abroad to present the Pakistani point of view.
The authorities are reported to have promised protection to their families and their belongings against guerilla attacks.
The reports speak of large-scale desertion from the civil and armed services. The authorities have arrested some policemen on suspicion that they are aiding the guerillas, Police stations, among other places, are the chief targets of the Mukti Bahini.
LARGE-SCALE DESERTIONS Freedom fighters recently destroyed an army launch near Abhaynagar in Jessore sector, Half a dozen troops were killed.
In Jessor town the guerillas hoisted the BanglaDesh flag right under the nose of the police officers in the city kotwali. A police officer and about two dozen constables were kidnapped.
The reports say the army has been continuing its bargarous activities in the Sylhet area where about 12 villages were set on fire in reprisal against the burning of an army launch. These were followed by several skirmishes between the troops and the guerillas. The Latter blew up the power lines and derailed a train by blowing up the track near Madhupur.
Freedom fighters are active in the Tangail area where army patrols are reported to be jittery for fear of ambushes.
There were two successive attacks on the nights of August 24 and 25 in Ghazipur area, east of Maulvi Bazar. In the encounter, 20 troops were killed and 50 were injured.
The approach to Chittagong port has been blocked following the sinking of a large dam in the river Karnaphuli by Mukti Bahini guerillas, according to reports received here today.
