Yahya diverting relief goods to troops: Tajuddin

MUJIBNAGAR, SEPT. 5- The Bangladesh Prime Minister, Mr. Tajuddin Ahmed, today alleged that the Pakistan Government was “utilizing to sustain the occupation troops much of the relief materials given by the nations of the world to Bengalis in the occupied areas”, reports UNI.
In a broadcast over Bangladesh radio, Mr. Ahmed blamed the UN for channelising the relief through the Pakistan Government “which had no scruple in pressing into service relief helicopters, vessels and vehicles in its campaign of repression against the Bengalis.”
He warned that this “gravely endangers” a mission supposed to be humanitarian and added that if the UN secretary-General at all cared “for the prestige of the world organization in this part of the world, he must take all steps to prevent UN relief operations in Bangladesh from being a mockery.”
On the trial of Bangabandhu Sheik Mujibur Rahman, Mr. Ahmad reminded the world that while it goes about its business, a man filled with the vision of the happiness of 75 million people who love him, was being held in captivity “by thugs who happen to have him in their power.”
He assured his countrymen that those who were plotting against the life of Sheik Mujibur under the cover of a so-called trail would not go unpunished.
He appealed to all powers who have any influence with Islamabad to help secure immediate release of the Bangabandhu.
On the Pakistani action of unseating some national and provincial Assembly members and leaving others to retain their seats, Mr. Ahmed said that the elected representatives derived their authority from the expressed will of the people “and are neither subject to a usurper’s rule, nor to his make-believe methods designed to produce the quiet fraudulent impression that those who are not unseated by him are supporters of his regime.”
