Bangla mission becomes High Commission

By A Staff Reporter, The Bangladesh Mission in Calcutta will henceforth be designed as High Commission for the Bangladesh Government.
This was announced in Calcutta by a Bangladesh mission spokesman on Monday.
Mr. Hossain Ali, the chief of the mission would be redesignated as the High Commissioner for Bangladesh.
This is the first High Commission for Bangladesh in a foreign country. The Bangladesh mission came into existence in Calcutta in April following the transfer of allegiance by the Pak High Commission staff to the Bangladesh Government.
The spokesman said that the High Commissioner for Bangladesh Mr. Hossein Ali would present his credentials to the Indian Government as soon as India recognised the Bangladesh Government.
The Spokesman did not feel that there would be any difficulty in the functioning of the High Commission even in an absence of formal recognition of India.
But knowledgeable south pointed out that the step might be indicative of recognition of the Bangladesh Government by India. So long, Mr. Hossein preferred to be designated the Chief of Bangladesh Mission in Calcutta because India has not recognised the Bangladesh Government formally.
