1,400 prisoners freed
SHILLONG, Apr. 11. The BanglaDesh Government which is in complete control of Sylhet, Mymensingh and Rangpur districts of East Bengal bordering Assam and Meghalaya, has freed 1400 prisoners from the Sylhet Jail, according to confirmed reports received here from across the border today.
The Bangladesh authorities were restoring rail, road, telecommunication services, water supply and electricity in the region.
The Muslim population of Mymensingh has been shopping in the border markets of Meghalaya today for essential foodstuffs in return for eggs and fish from East Bengal.
The Sylhet town and cantonment; already under the complete control of the Liberation Army, fighting in the district was today restricted to the airport where a small contingent of West Pakistani troops was still holding out -(PTI).
