Charges against Pak editors dropped
NEW DELHI JUNE 6.- Pakistan Martial Law authorities have dropped the charges against four West Pakistan editors for violation of the Martial Law Regulation, says UNI.
While withdrawing he case under Martial Law No.77, a Government hand-out warned that any future violation of its provisions would be severely dealt with .
The four editors accused in the case were Mr. Majid Nizami ( Nawai Waqt), Mr. Adul Wahid Khan (Kohistan), Mr. Hanif Ranay (Musawat) and Mr. Bashir Ahmed Arshad (Javedan).
They were charged with criticism of the military regime.
The case was stated to have been withdrawn following an application made to the Government by the West Punjab Union of Journalists, assuring that the editors would not, in future violate the Regulations under which they were charged.
The trial of these newspaper editors began in Lahore in May 31. The hearings in a military court were held in camera.
They went on trial separately for the alleged violation of Martial Law Regulations prohibiting criticism of the military regime and of the political leaders.
