Mujib’s release demanded
RAWALPINDI, Feb. 16 (PPI): Syed Riaz Ahmad Pirzada, the President of the Rawalpindi branch of the Awami League, has demanded the release of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the withdrawal of the Agartala case against him.
In a Press statement, he said that the fulfilment of the three pre-conditions laid down by the DAC was a sine-qua-non for the holding of the crucial round-table conference. The nation cannot afford a deadlock at this juncture, he added.
The Al leader stressed that without a full-fledged parliamentary system based on direct elections, there was no possibility of restoring peaceful life in the country. This, he said, is a must for all, whether in power or in opposition. Otherwise, he warned, no one would be able to stem the tide of events.
Mr. Pirzada said that even the local self-government must be elected directly.
