Big powers seek gain from Bangla issue

By A Staff Reporter, World powers find in the Bangladesh tragedy only an opportunity to increase strength. To India they give relief for the refugees; to Pakistan they give arms. That means business, commerce and balance of power at the cost of India.
This was stated by Mr. Justice P. B. Mukharji, Chief Justice, Calcutta High Court, during a reception on Friday to several eminent lawyears who were representative of the Bangladesh Government. The function was organised by the Calcutta High Court Bar Association.
Mr. Banamali Das, Advocate-General of West Bengal, said that the problem of Bangladesh could not be taken as an abstract proposition.
The events which took place in Bangladesh would have a far-reaching effect on other countries of the world.
Replying to the reception, the Bangladesh representatives said that the people of the country remained undaunted despite the torture let loose by Yahya’s military Government and they would achieve the goal of freedom for their country. The battle which was going on in Bangladesh was not a secessionist war. It was a revolt to win freedom on the basis of democratic right.
Mr. Sayd Abdus Sultan. MNA, said that they needed the support of India and other countries of the world in their struggle for the establishment of human rights. But without recotnition of Bangladesh it was not possible for anybody to render such help. “So, we have stretched out our hand towards India for recognition but the Indian Government is still saying that the time has not yet come to recognise Bangladesh. We tell India that already enough time had lapsed and we have suffered immense losses”.
