PM’s handling of East Bengal problem praised
By A Staff Reporter, The way Mrs. Gandhi has handled the East Bengal problem is ‘unparalleled’ and her style of diplomacy is a class itself, said Mr. Ravindrah Ghurburrun, the High Commissioner of Mauritius in India in a Press conference in Calcutta of Friday.
Mr. Ghurburrun who visited the Salt Lake and Kalyani refugee camps, declared that he had never seen anything of the kind. His talks with the refugees convinced him that they had fled their country to save their lives. When asked about the Pakistani propaganda that India was preventing their retum, he said that he did not think so.
The High Commissioner was all praise about the way India was looking after the 9.5 million refugees. He informed reporfers that apart from donating 500 tons of sugar the Mauritius Government was raising funds for helping the refugees.
The present problem Mr. Ghurburrun said, could not be an internal problem of Pakistan as the massive spill-over of the refugees had changed the whole situation. He thought some sort of political solution was called for. The dialogue should be between the two wings of Pakistan, and not between India and Pakisatan. The elected representatives of the people, including. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman must be included in the talks, he affirmed.
