Big purge of Bengali in Pak services

MUJIBNAGAR, June 9: Frustrated in their attempts to restore normal activities on offices and factories in the occupied areas of Bangladesh, the martial Law authorities have resorted to large-scale purge of Government and semi-Government officers, banks, factories and other establishment according to the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra.
The radio said this evening that about 600 employee of the Habib Bank had been sacked. Another 1,600 of the Pakistan international Airlines met with the same fate. Almost all Bengali employees of the water and power development authorities have also been discharged.
In the East Bengal Secretariat a “high-calibre purge” is in full swing. Besides employees, about 30 officers, including the chief Secretary, the Home Secretary and other secretaries, have been transferred or removed from service.
A Punjabi officer has been appointed in place of the Bengali Chief Secretary. UNI.
