Sheikh Mujib Regrets
Imposition Of Sec.144
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, General Secretary of East Pakistan Awami League, has issued the following statement to the press last night:
I am very sorry that the Government has imposed Section 144 in Tejgaon area because people were very anxious to go to the airport to show the Republican leaders that the people of East Pakistan support joint electorate.
But anyhow the Awami League will not violate the law of the land and will go to the public meeting at Paltan Maidan at 4 p.m. and there we will show the strength of the support for joint electorate. “I appeal to people to attend the public meeting. The Awami League will not allow the Muslim League ruling clique to divide Bengal and rule. We the people of East Pakistan will firmly resist it.
“I also appeal to the Republican leaders who are coming here to witness the public meeting at Paltan Maidan. There they will understand the real strength of the support for joint electorate. -APP.
