Sept. 6: Giving a resume of the one-year progress of the Awami League Government, the former Provincial Industries Minister, Sk. Mujibur Rahman told a vast concourse of humanity at the Laldighi Maidan here today that in a remarkably short span of time the Awami League Government has tried to weed corruption, develop East Pakistan industrially and have imported foodgrains worth Rs. 56 crores so far.
Mr. Mujibur Rahman, in his “progress report” laid much emphasis on the oft-levelled charge of corruption of Ministers and Government servants. He said the corrupt practices indulged by the Muslim League regime could not be washed away in a year’s time. He however challenged that his former Cabinet colleagues were corrupt.
He disclosed that so far 34 gazetted officers were suspended by the Anti-Corruption department.
He gave a detailed review of the work he did as Industries Minister and added “I have done my best to help Bengali industrialists and so far licenses worth Rs. 5 crores have been issued to the sons of the soil.”
