BHASHANI-MUJIB TALKS
BY A STAFF CORRESPONDENT
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, General Secretary of the East Pakistan Awami League, yesterday met Maulana Bhashani, his president who has resigned but whose resignation has not yet been accepted by the party.
It is gathered the meeting was arranged by a prominent Awami Leaguer who feels that the Maulana should not desert the party at this critical period. Though Maulana Bhashani would not disclose what subjects were discussed by them. Knowledgeable sources said that Mr. Mujibur Rahman requested the Maulana to withdraw his resignation letter as requested by the Awami League Council at its last session at Dacca. They said Sheikh Mujib even assured that some personal adjustments could be made to enable the Maulana to stay on as the President of the organization.
Political circles here interpreted this meeting as indication of anxiety of the ruling party to retain Moulana Bhashani as leader of the organization.
