Labour Advisory Board to Meet On May 23
The Labour Minister, Sk. Mujibur Rahman, has convened a meeting of the East Pakistan Labour Advisory Board on May 23 to consider the general labour situation now prevailing in the province and to take measures necessary to maintain industrial peace by improving the relationship between the employers and the employees, reports APP.
The agenda of the meeting, which will be held in the Committee Room of the Provincial Assembly, will include the following:
Fixation of minimum wages Industry-wise or unit-wise; introduction of compulsory provident fund; payment of annual bonus including Eid and Puja bonus; facilities of leave and holidays with pay; compensation for involuntary unemployment; inclusion of dearness allowance, in wages for payment of overtime, leave, holidays and bonus; payment of overtime for work on closed holidays; provision of residential accommodation or house rent allowances in lieu thereof, for workers; provision of minimum medical facilities; conditions for recognising trade unions; provision of security of service by employers to wokers; compulsory formation of Works Committees and security of service of the members thereof; measures to check the growing tendency towards illegal and lighting strikes and lockouts; stay-in strikes, other forms of indiscipline and misconduct, go slow lacties, irregular attendance, unauthorised and overstay of leaves; measures necessary to ensure speedier conciliation of disputes by providing additional essential facilities; measures necessary to eliminate inter-union rivalries, and any other item with the permission of the Chairman.
