Yahya’s Move A Ruse, Says Journalist
NEW DELHI, July 27- Mr. Colin Smith the Rawalpindi correspondent of the Sunday Observer, London has said that General Yahya Khan’s reiteration that he would transfer power by November “appears only to be a ruse” says UNI.
The President must be determined more than ever before to hold the reins of the Government in his own hands notwithstanding Mr. Bhutto’s efforts to endanger the President’s position by stimulating unrest.
Mr. Bhutto would try to take advantage of any move that weakens Gen. Yahya Khan’s position. The army in that case has to act though it cannot be said with certainty whether the action in West Pakistan would be in the same manner as it has been against the East Bengalis.
Mr. Smith’s observation that the army must try to hold power is also based on what he said the reports of political unrest in Baluchistan and NWFP provinces where the leaders were increasingly seeking return of power.
