Mujib urges Govt. : Give adequate compensation to firing victims
LAHORE, Feb. 25: – Sheikh Mujibur Rahman yesterday reminded the Government of the crying need to pay “adequate compensation” to the firing victims without delay, reports PPI.
In the meantime, he had setup a nine-member committee to provide relief to these victims of Government atrocities.
In a press statement on his arrival here yesterday afternoon, he appealed to the people to donate liberally to the fund being raised by the committee for this purpose.
Following is the text of the statement issued by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in this connection: “Some tragic deaths have occurred and many persons have been injured on account of firing during the recent country wide mass movement for realisation of the rights of the people. The Government should come forward to give adequate compensation to the firing victims without delay.
“In pursuance of the wishes of Sunday’s Race Course meeting. I propose to continue our little mite to give some relief to those victims, and in view thereof I wish to announce the formation of a committee for relief to the victims of the recent firing with myself, Dr Quadrat-e-Khuda, Begum Sufia Kamal, Mr. Tofazzal Hussain (Manik Mia), Mr. Mahibus Samad, Mr. K. G. Mustafa (from among the working journalists) and Mr. Tufail Ahmad (of the Students Committee of Action) Two members will be included in the committee from Lahore organisation. Mr. Tofazzal Hussain (Manik Mia) will act as Convener and Mr. Mahibus Samad as Treasurer.
“I appeal to the people to make generous contributions to the committee for the firing victims.”
