A Pakistani government spokesman maintained on Dec.30 that any move to put  Pakistani Prisoners of war and civilian officials on trail or to hand them over to the Bangladesh Government would be in defiance of the Geneva Conventions”. (kca, p.25110)

-Major General G. Nagra of the Indian Army admitted that without the Mukti Bahini it would not have been possible to overrun the enemy so quickly. (The Statesman)

-A.H.M Kamruzzaman, the Bangladesh Home and Rehabilitation Minister, visited the refugee camps near Calcutta and urged the inmates to go back to Bangladesh and assured them that the miscreants and collaborators who were responsible for their miseries were being rounded up and would be brought to trail. He said, ‘ You have stayed here for nine months taxing the re-sources of this great friendly nation. We have upset her economy badly. You should not stay here as evacuees but go back and take part in the national reconstruction. He assured the evacuees that they would get back their property.  He further said that the dispersal of refugees would be completed by 25 March 1972.

-The Pakistan Times reported on Dec.30 that the President Z.A Bhutto had offered Sheik Mujib “as much autonomy as he wants for Eastt Pakistan”. Provided that he undertook to keep the province within the framework of one Pakistan.
