ফিলিপাইনের ক্যাথলিকদের আবেদন।

জুলাই মাসের ১৬ তারিখে ফিলিপাইনের ৩ কোটি ১০ লক্ষ ক্যাথলিকদের বিশপরা বাংলাদেশের ৬০ কোটি শরণার্থীদের সাহায্যের জন্য আবেদন করেন। এর আগে ফিলিপাইনের প্রেসিডেন্ট মার্কোসও ভারত সরকারকে শরণার্থীদের বিষয়ে উদ্বেগ প্রকাশ করে চিঠি দেন।

বিশপরা একই সঙ্গে শরণার্থীদের প্রতি এবং অবরুদ্ধ দেশে যে ট্র্যাজিক মৃত্যু হচ্ছে তাতে উদ্বেগ জানান

“Deeply moved by terrible suffering of the six million East Bengali refugees many of them wounded, starving without shelter during there torrential monsoons and now ravaged by a raging cholera. We also note with deepest sorrow and tragic deaths of thousand in East Bengal, the victim including several priest. While exprssing Commiseration we pray to almighty God asking for eternal peace for these unfortunate victims.”

তারা আরও নানান ধর্মগুরু পােপ ও এ বিষয়ে বিশ্বনেতাদের কাছে আবেদন প্রেরণ করেছেন। এরপর ফিলিপাইনের অধিবাসীদের আবেদন জানিয়ে বলেন, তারাও যেন ইস্ট পাকিস্তানের তাদের ভাইদের দুর্দশা লাঘবে মুক্তহস্তে সাহায্য করে।
