Mujib appeals for generous donations: Firing Victims Relief Fund
DACCA, March 5: Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has fervently appealed to the people, particularly to the people of East Pakistan to generously donate to the Relief Committee for the firing victims.
Making a statement on behalf of the Peoples Relief Committee, Sheikh Mujib said: “This is the least we can do for the brave souls who put the Peoples interest over everythings.”
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman said: ‘many valuable lives were sacrificed to the arms of repression of the regime during the recent mass uprising in East Pakistan. Many other were injured and have been crippled. People rightly felt that they must come to the aid to their fellow citizens who did not hesitate to make supreme sacrifices for establishing the rights and the freedom of the people.
“In deference to their feeling I had announced at the public meeting at Race Course Maidan that a Relief Committee would be formed for providing help to the families of those who have been killed and also to those who have sustained injuries.
Accordingly, I announced the formation of the Peoples Relief Committee for the firing victims. The Committee has opened its account with the Eastern Mercantile Bank.
“I fervently appeal to my countrymen, particularly the people of East Pakistan, to donate generously to the fund of the Peoples Relief Committee for the firing victims.
“This is the least we can do for the brave souls who put the people’s interest over everything. The donation can be sent to any branch of Eastern Merchantile Bank. The donors are requested to send their names and figures of the sum donated to the Convener of the Committee, Mr. Tofazzal Husain, C/O the Daily Ittefaq, Dacca.-APP
